PAXOS - LEFKAS
Wind : WNW 5
Weather : Sunny / max. 26 °C / Pressure 1016 HP
There is a bridge wich connects Lefkas with mainland Greece, it opens every hour on the hour to let ships through.
From the bridge it's ca.1 NM untill you reach in Lefkas-town.
Today the wind is blowing strong from the NNW.
Our destination is Lefkas, a 40 miles downwind trip.

Due to the strong wind the waves, coming from the open sea, builded up very high, ca. 4-5 metres, the biggest waves I ever saw in the Ionian in the Summer-season.
There's a new marina in operation, it opened in the beginning of the year.

There is still some buildingwork going on, but the mooring-facilities are in full-use (all the berths have moorings, water & electricity).
When the work is completed it will be the marina with the highest standard in the Ionian.
It will probably become the Yachting-centre of the Ionian-islands.

It's a short walk to Lefkas-town (5-10 min.).

After a 6 hour "rollercoaster"-ride,
you can see our TOPSPEED beside,
we arrived at the old castle of Agia Mavra.
The castle of Agia Mavra is situated at the
North-entrance of the Lefkas-canal.

The Castle (13th Century) was a strategic place in History, therefore it was conquered by the Spains,
Turks, Venetians,...
